The Riviera Ligure di Ponente Pigato from the Laura Aschero winery is a white wine capable of combining body and impetus, configuring itself as a typical expression of the variety. Pigato is an indigenous variety of Liguria that probably originated from a genetic mutation of the more famous Vermentino, a grape with which it shares many of the ampelographic, oenological and organoleptic characteristics. What distinguishes this grape variety, however, are the small brown spots that appear on the ripe berries, hence the name 'Pigato', from the Ligurian dialect term 'pigau', meaning 'spotted'.
Laura Aschero Pigato Riviera Ligure di Ponente is a 100% Pigato from vines grown on hilly terrain in a Mediterranean climate characterised by good temperature excursions between day and night. In the winery, the grapes are vinified using the white wine method through soft pressing and alcoholic fermentation of the must in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of around 20 °C, reducing the contact between must and marc to just a few hours, just enough to enhance the varietal aromas and accentuate the wine's colour intensity. The subsequent ageing phase also takes place in steel, containers in which the mass remains resting on the lees for a few months.
To the eye, Riviera Ligure di Ponente Laura Aschero Pigato displays a luminous straw-yellow hue with subtle golden veins. Aromatic bouquet of great charm in its clear and intense recognitions of ripe yellow plum, nectarine, broom flowers, acacia honey, sage and woodland resins. The taste is full and enveloping, rich and soft, well supported by the pleasant freshness and fine sapid-mineral tone. A characteristic and pleasant bitterish tone then emerges in the finish.
