The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva “Pieluni” from the Illuminati winery is a complex and structured red wine produced in the municipality of Controguerra, on the Teramo hills, in Abruzzo. This label is made from pure Montepulciano grapes sourced from vineyards located at about 285 meters above sea level and facing south. The vines are cultivated using the espalier method and Guyot pruning on loose soils characterized by small parts of sand and silt that provide the refinement that will then be added to the characteristic structure of this Montepulciano Riserva. The winery is a historic family-run business that has consistently increased its owned vineyard area over the years, believing in the territory, until reaching the current 130 hectares, managed with great care and cutting-edge technologies, especially during the winemaking phase.
The “Pieluni” Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva from the Illuminati winery is produced with late-harvested grapes, generally towards the second half of October, to achieve the fruit concentration sought. The bunches are then destemmed and gently pressed and vinified in stainless steel fermenters at a controlled temperature that never exceeds 29-30 °C, with a long maceration on the skins of about 20-25 days. At this point, the wine is racked with pressing of the skins after which it remains in aging in barriques for a minimum of 24 months, before being bottled and continuing its maturation in the bottle for an additional 14-15 months in the estate's cellars, before being released on the market.
