The Carmignano “Il Sasso” comes from a selection of international grape varieties blended with Sangiovese, grown in the homonymous vineyard located in Santa Cristina, in Mezzana, in one of the most vocated areas of the entire denomination. A territorial wine, rich in organoleptic qualities, which combines freshness and elegance with a sip of excellent craftsmanship, capable of expressing itself firmly even in the future. A label where the tradition of the terroir blends with a modern interpretation of winemaking typical of the Piaggia winery.
“Il Sasso” by Piaggia is a Carmignano that originates from a blend driven by Sangiovese, which is present in the final blend with 70%, alongside percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. The vines of this variety are cultivated at an altitude of about 250 meters above sea level, with a southwest exposure. The terroir is characterized by a subsoil mainly composed of clay and galestro. The must ferments spontaneously thanks to the presence of indigenous yeasts, macerating for 18-20 days in contactwith the pomace. It then continues with aging, where it rests for 15 months in small French oak barrels; after bottling, it undergoes a further maturation of another 6 months.
The red wine Carmignano “Il Sasso” presents itself visually with a color reminiscent of ruby. On the nose, a fruity sensation dominates, particularly of cherry, enhanced by a more balsamic touch that emerges at the finish. On the palate, it has excellent body, enveloping, with a sip of great charm, rich and satisfying, also thanks to a pleasant fresh texture. A bottle that encapsulates all the charm of the Prato area and that smells of Tuscany.
