Domenico Clerico's Barolo "Ciabot Mentin" is an expression of great finesse and very high class. It comes from that modernist trait that has been the hallmark of Domenico Clerico's winemaking, capable of remaining firmly anchored in his land. It is precisely from the enormous esteem Clerico has always held for his beloved Langa that his work, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, was born. It was he who, taking on the commitment to continue the family winemaking business, decided to take the extra step, bringing his own grapes to fruition in a bottle and a label. It all originated from the realization that that land was great, full of potential and wonders to be expressed. Starting from such a premise, wines of substance and character could only originate, born and raised in a beautiful love story.
"Ciabot Mentin" Barolo by Domenico Clerico is made from the vineyard of the same name, set within the Ginestra Cru. This area is located near the town of Monforte d'Alba, known for giving Barolos great structure. The vineyard is located at an altitude of about 400 meters above sea level, facing south. The soils are defined by a prevalent clay composition capable of sharpening the characteristic aromatic complexity. The long maceration and fermentation of the must is around 30 days and precedes a bipartite ageing: first 16 months inside barriques, then another 16 months in 50 hl casks. A bottle ageing of about 2 years concludes the process.
Domenico Clerico Barolo's "Ciabot Mentin" presents a bright and intense garnet red colour in the glass. Its bouquet is marked on the red fruit, which comes in crisp, wild and spirit form. It is followed by notes of liquorice on toasted and spicy hints. In the mouth, it is intense, engaging and highly structured, finished in a noble classy drink. The almost unlimited life of this wine will make it surprising any time you decide to open it.
